Coup de coeur
Coup de coeur (Literature), by Sorcha
This book has just catapulted Lauren Groff to the top of my must read list. It was absolutely stunning and completely bewitching a staggering exploration of the wilderness in early colonial America and the fast-encroaching reach of settlers on still untouched land. It is at its core a story about survival, about a girl who starts to run and finds that she cannot stop, and it is utterly captivating. Groffs writing is more than lush and descriptive: it is a sensory experience, visceral and disgusting mostly (Groff doesnt shy away from the horrors of the protagonists condition) but also somehow sublime and, like in Matrix, spiritual and wondrous.

A profound and explosive novel about a spirited girl alone in the wilderness, trying to survive

A servant girl escapes from a settlement. She carries nothing with her but her wits, a few possessions, and the spark of god that burns hot within her. What she finds is beyond the limits of her imagination and will bend her belief of everything that her own civilization has taught her.

The Vaster Wilds is a work of raw and prophetic power that tells the story of America in miniature, through one girl at a hinge point in history, to ask how -and if - we can adapt quickly enough to save ourselves.
