Autograph Letter Signed

Twelve line autograph letter signed by W.H. Auden, dated May 8th, 1966.
The letter is written on his headed paper (Kirchstetten, Austria) and includes its original envelope, addressed in Auden's hand to Rev. Gerald Irvine. The letter is a polite refusal to the Reverend's offer that Auden come to preach at Saint Cuthbert's Church in London. He writes, "When it comes to preaching, I am too much of and amateur, and my stock of ideas is too limited, for me to be capable of preaching two sermons in such a short period - one a year is the maximum I could hope to produce, so I must say no."
Some small creasing to corners but otherwise in excellent condition.
